Dear Emmaus Family,
We stand in solidarity with all those who have been unfairly targeted by racial injustice and racism in our world today. We grieve with the families and loved ones of those who have so horrifically lost their lives in this fight. We march with those who strive towards a better future, and as the late Martin Luther King Jr. once said, we have this hope that we can create a world in which people are not judged by the color of their skin but the content of their character.
Emmaus Life Sciences was founded at a time when investment and innovation in sickle cell disease was far from popular. It is with this same commitment that we will continue to go beyond the laboratories and pharmacies but into the homes and neighborhoods of our patients. True change will only come with critical partnerships and investment into both community-based strategies and system-wide transformation of our healthcare clinical delivery systems. Therefore, Emmaus is committed to expanding its social capitalism philosophy and challenges other industry leaders in the biotechnology and biopharmaceutical space to do the same. Emmaus will remain relentless to change our broken system and seek justice. Emmaus stands united and committed to the principles of equality and inclusion and will use our resources and influence to transform our community in both our professional and personal capacities. The beginning of the end of racism against the African-American Community or any other community starts when we realize our ethical obligation to value each and every human Life as our own!
